Western Strings is devoted to bringing string class education to Native American and other underserved communities in Montana and Wyoming.
Our mission is to provide underserved children the opportunity to learn musical expression through the skill of playing string instruments, incorporating Native traditions whenever possible.
In November, 2022, Western Strings began string music instruction for students in grades 3 - 6 on the Absáalooke (Crow) reservation in Lodge Grass, Montana
This is how every class starts
My favorite quote: "I love the violin!"
"I love the violin."
"I know that introducing this string program to the kids in Lodge Grass has been a tremendous success. I witnessed the moment that it “clicked” with so many of them. It was amazing to see the change from this just being another class for them, to being a joyful part of their day. The children in Lodge Grass have experienced a spark of love for the violin and cello. I hope that spark can be extended and nourished into a life long passion."
"Before this they’ve never even thought of playing violins ever and I’m really glad that they got to experience it.”
"As an instructor in the program it was remarkable to see the children light up when they were able to play. They were very well mannered, and their teachers were supportive. It was a really beautiful experience!"
